Good food, amazing setting, waiter was excellent. All let down by the portion sizes, which for the salad was starter sized. My scallops could have easily been fixed with a tiny bit more sauce (which was delicious) and some bread to mop it up.
Staff seemed wildly surprised anyone visited them that night. We would've left the location after their initial reaction to us, but we were the only people their during conventional supper time, so we couldn't slip out without it being awkward. Our meal was fine, but we were told it was more of a seafood restaurant, and it barely had seafooy on the menu-- at best. Our server didn't know what "house red" meant. The music inside was terrible pan flute versions of 80s classics.Didn't have much, if any, local wines. The place began to fill up a bit more as we got closer to leaving, but we didn't understand why-- but it was the only restaurant on the shore, we were told, so...
Great view over the water and I like how the patio isnt complete exposed to the sun. I popped in for lunch and had the scallops with roast potatoes. It was so good! The scallops were big and juicy and the potatoes were perfect for mopping up the remaining butter sauce. We shared some desserts and the Linzer Cake was lovely. Service was top notch as well.
Compose is, by far, one of my favorite restaurants in the region. Fine food. Fine location. Fine staff. The owner rules the kitchen and she is equally at home with local seafood, especially the Digby scallops, and with her native Austian schnitzel. We were here two nights. Both dinners were exquisite. My wife had the scallops and the salmon. I had two schnitzel variations. Mouth-watering. And the presentation was excellent. Did we like it? Enough to wish we were staying longer!
My husband and I have been traveling across Canada for the past 4 months and being retired chefs we love to dine out at the local restaurants that are NOT chains. We talked to several locals and read a lot of reviews about this restaurant and were surprised to learn that although the location was great, the food really delicious, service top notch and lovely decore, yet some people were bringing down its star rating because they couldnt bring in young children. People - the care and attention that goes into creating a fine dining experience can be obliterated by a small child or several children in an instant. This is the chefs restaurant and thank heavens she has the right and the guts to tell you its NOT a good fit for families with young kids. We really enjoyed ourselves tonight - the food was spot on from Lobster cocktail to the Digby Scallops in spicy orange sauce to the Shnitzel in classic hunter sauce and oh yes the beautifully clarified French Onion Soup with Gruyere topped croutons. Its a charming restaurant where the chef and staff put their hearts into the experience. We will return soon.
